He took my hand in his and kissed the back of it. “What part of I’m in love with you did you not understand?”

“Hmm, being a smart ass will get you punished,” I warned, but laughed so he knew that right now I was only kidding.

“Is it bad that that excites me?” He smiled.

“Not at all, luv,” I reassured. “Being in love with me and wanting a relationship like this are two different things, Darren. You may try this out and discover it’s not for you.”

He shook his head adamantly. “Not going to happen, M.”

I sighed. “That’s what they all say.” I ran a hand through his dark hair gently.

“How can I reassure you I won’t change my mind about this?”

He was eager for me to trust him and start this between us, I could see it clear in his eyes. While I didn’t want to deny him or surprisingly myself, I was still cautious. “I don’t know. This differs completely from starting a dynamic with someone new. You’re not new, Darren, and I know you trust me with your life. Trust needs to build slowly, which is why I take it slow in this kind of relationship, but with you it’s completely different.”

“I do trust you with my life.” He took the wrist of the hand I was still running over his hair and kissed the inside. “I have no doubts that you’ll be good to me, and I’m ready, willing and fucking dying to do this.
